Internet Censorship
"Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself."
Potter Stewart, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court
This week the medical geniuses that run Facebook and Twitter decided to take down a Presidential opinion on the vulnerability of children with respect to the China Flu. They deemed it to be harmful and misleading, and yet they allow harmful and misleading comments from Communist China, the Iranian Mullahs and other assorted radicals and haters. Why?
It seems that opinions like the President’s remarks regarding the infection rate of children and other opinions, are not welcome on these “public” social media forums. Never mind that the what was stated by the President, that children appear to have much stronger immune systems to resist the pandemic, is one shared by a lot of medical professionals. This opinion doesn’t fit the narrative that we have to keep the schools closed at all costs. Meanwhile most of the civilized world has reopened their educational systems.
Now anyone paying attention to this nonsense knows who the progenitors of this hysteria are. The NEA and the teacher’s union, who are solidly in the Democrat party column, are the tub thumpers for this policy. They are doing their part to work for Joe Biden’s elevation to the highest office in the land. They want him out of his Delaware basement.
This is not the first time that Facebook and Twitter have shut down conservative or Republican remarks or posts. Biden and his campaign have had unfettered access to these forums with little fear of a post or tweet being removed. In fact, nothing that the campaign or their acolytes have posted has been taken down.
On the other hand, comments about Hydroxychloroquine, the pandemic cure favored by some in the medical community, have been regularly squelched as false and misleading, even when posted by qualified medical professionals. Again, if it’s not a vaccine, forget it. Let’s keep the plague fantasy going, a truly nasty version of the flu, that has a 99% survival rate unless you are over 65, infirm, with a pre-existing condition. Fact.
The misery index must remain high because, unless you’ve been sequestered in a Montana cave, the social media platform is just as agenda-driven as the other media outlets. Their censorship is far from even handed and they will “gore their own ox” as regulators are starting to circle them like hungry sharks in coastal Cape Cod. New rules of conduct for them are already being discussed.
Justice Stewart’s quote rings true. The national confidence has been shaken by reliance on opinions that are only “politically” correct. By not allowing rigorous public debate and acceptance of all opinions in the social media forums, the Facebook and Twitter censors are operating like the Communist Chinese, who were so forth coming about the origins of the “Wuhan Flu”.
The United States has always had a tradition of free-flowing information but now media bias and censorship has further acerbated the public’s distrust of these sources.
Just another tragedy of these troubling endemic times.
