Saving America
Unless you were isolated in a Montana cave, then you know what happened in the Nation’s Capital this week. The giant “Stop the Steal” rally degenerated into a full-scale assault on the Capital building. Fueled by a fiery Presidential speech where once again Donald Trump outlined the shenanigans that he claims cost him the election, a mob interrupted the debate of the electoral college results and stormed the Halls of Congress, terrifying all inside. A stunned nation watched in disbelief, fear and anger.
Who were these people that assaulted the Capital? The crowd that attacked were reminiscent of the BLM/Antifa loons that we’ve grown accustomed to in the streets of Portland or Seattle or Kenosha. These were not patriots but traitors to the democratic principles upon which this Nation was founded. The kind of violent civil unrest that we witnessed on Wednesday was no different than what was observed last summer when stores were looted and burned. Insurrection conducted by the left or the right is criminal.
Whether you like it or not, our country is engaged in a civil war minus the gunfire. This polarization is aided and abetted by a media that would not know how to report a news story fairly without a bias. That’s a fact. How else can you account for the suppression of the sordid past of the newest Senator from Georgia, Revered Rafael Warnock? Did anyone dig into the career of the other new Senator, Jon Ossoff and the connection to his Chinses pals who funded his documentary film company?
Or further, why hasn’t the press dug deeply into the Hunter Biden influence peddling scheme he ran while his father was Vice President, and now the soon to be President? Whatever happened to an investigation of the infamous laptop? The obfuscation of the truth colored by a reporter’s personal agenda does not serve the Nation in any way. It’s reminiscent of the propaganda machine run by the Soviet Union through Pravda, or Joseph Goebbels working the media on behalf of Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany. Leaders on both sides of the political spectrum should be subject to a thorough vetting by the Fourth Estate.
The greatest problem this country faces is the absence of a fair and unbiased press. Why hasn’t there been a bright light shown on the politicians who allowed the wanton looting and burning that took place in the wake of the George Floyd debacle? Those politicians who told the police to stand down and not enforce the law? Now it looks like one of America’s worst mayors, Portland’s Ted Wheeler (D), has seen the light after months of acquiescence to the Antifa criminals in his city. He’s now asking for help from the Feds to restore law and order to Portland.
The social media bias has been investigated and discussed ad nauseam. Twitter suspended President Trump’s account permanently. Facebook deleted videos and has banned him indefinitely. He no longer has access to Instagram as well. Whether you like him or not, there should be no suppression of anyone’s opinions, President or pauper. The leadership of these companies should not be the arbitrators of what one can read or should read.
Certainly, there are a lot of problems that deserve the attention of local and national leaders, homelessness, poverty, substandard educational opportunities, affordable housing and so on. However, these problems will pale if their actual impact is hidden from the wider public view. When was the last time you read a story or saw a report about the ongoing human waste found on the streets of San Francisco? It hasn’t gone away, but it’s not reported because it might make that city’s mayor look bad. This is the kind of reportage that is withheld from the public. A media outlet’s agenda at work.
Anderson Cooper, the lead CNN anchor, mocked DC protesters/Trump supporters Wednesday, for patronizing the Olive Garden, Holiday Inn, and something called 'The Garden Marriott." Cooper, born into the Vanderbilt family, is guilty of astounding, shameful elitism. With this kind of “peering down the nose” journalism, is it any wonder why the media has little credibility with the majority of Americans. There is no need to denigrate anyone’s choice in lodging or food. Not everyone can stay at the Ritz-Carlton or eat at The French Laundry. Anderson ought to try the Olive Garden or the Holiday Inn, he might like it.
The moralizing that flows from today’s media outlets are by no means even-handed. Just compare if you can, the narrative about last summer’s riots (insurrection) to what happened in the Nation’s capital. Any fair-minded observer could deduce that the there was a clearly a defined double standard.
As a new administration takes the reins of government this month, one wonders if the media will give the Biden-Harris team the same relentless scrutiny that the Trump-Pence team enjoyed regarding their families, friends or the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. If there was a betting line on this in Las Vegas, “yes or no”, “no” would be the prohibitive favorite because there is a biased agenda embedded in our media
That lack of scrutiny, sadly, will only accelerate the failure to save America.
