Leftovers
After the Thanksgiving feast there’s always some leftovers that need attention. Same goes for the news cycle as the holiday obfuscates some interesting and underreported events that add further credulity to media malfeasance.
Barely reported over the holiday was the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg’s sagacious take on electric vehicles. In a Sunday interview on MSNBC, he said that families who buy electric vehicles “never have to worry about gas prices again." Now that is stunningly brilliant. But his genius continued, when he stated, "The people who stand to benefit most from owning an EV are often rural residents who have the most distances to drive, who burn the most gas, and underserved urban residents in areas where there are higher gas prices and lower income." Someone tell Pete that the average electric car costs $51,532 according to Kelly Blue Book. At those prices there won’t be a stampede to purchase.
Joe Biden was out and about Nantucket over Thanksgiving, scoring some fancy digs from billionaire pal, David Rubenstein. Plenty of room for the family to roam on the 13-acre estate. Certainly, a grand time was had by all as Joe was repeatedly spotted without his mask on. So, what’s the beef? Seems Nantucket has an ordinance that everyone must wear a mask…indoors at retail establishments. Not Joe. Anybody getting tired of this mixed messaging regarding mask rules for the folks but not the elites?
Kamala Harris and her husband got to help the Bidens plate meals at a DC Central Kitchen for homeless shelter residents and other folks in need. Little else was reported as the VP’s soaring popularity pushes reportage about her to the unseen areas most newspapers. So, Americans were left in the dark as to whether she made her famous cornbread stuffing in the $350 Le Creuset cookware she picked up on her recent trip to France. To its credit, the Washington Post did publish her recipe which did get good reviews. This is first positive assessment she’s received this year on anything she’s done.
The holiday weekend wouldn’t have been complete unless the Nation had heard from Dr. Anthony Fauci who appeared on the Sunday’s CBS news program “Face the Nation”. In the classic movie, “A Face in the Crowd” a man drunk on his own power, falls from public grace after an open microphone reveals what an arrogant, power-mad demagogue he really is. The significant interview moment came when Fauci dismissed any criticism of him as invalid by asserting, “They’re really criticizing science, because I represent science. They’re dangerous.” If Tony is science, then Hunter Biden is the next Picasso. Fauci might have finally reached his moment, one can only hope.
Lot of noise in the media about the cost of Turkey. White House Press Secretary Jen “Pinocchio” Psaki diligently tried to convince the country that it was only about a buck more than last year…on the average. With a dismissive attitude, she said, “a twenty-pound turkey is a pretty big turkey, they're about $1 more." Doing the math, that’s 5 cents a pound. Research reveals that frozen turkeys were selling for $1.41 per pound, up from $1.15 the year before, a 22 percent increase. Let’s see Jen, that’s 26 cents a pound more which amounts to $5.20. Math and grocery shopping are not Jen’s strong suits.
Those are some of the news media leftovers. Not as good as the ones millions of Americans enjoyed with friends and family.
