Second Amendment

In the wake of the tragic dance hall shooting in Monterey Park, California, Governor Gavin Newsom was sighted swaggering down a local street with Norah O’Donnell of CBS News in tow. Not a hair out of place, he was railing against the Second Amendment, calling it a “suicide pact” while surrounded with armed security guards.  In a state with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, he was declaring that we have to get all firearms off the streets. Never mind that the Asian loon who shot up a Chinese New Year gathering had purchased the weapon 20 plus years ago…legally, in California.  The laws were fairly restrictive.

Then, a few days later another Asian-on-Asian mass killing occurred.  What do these tragic events have in common? Both mass murders were committed by seriously crazy individuals.  The firearms used didn’t operate by themselves, they had a maniac as their operator. Suppose these senseless deaths were caused by a nut with a Samurai sword, or an aluminum baseball bat, maybe an ordinary kitchen carving knife? Will Governor Newsom bandwagon for confiscation of all swords, bats, or kitchen cutlery? The country does not have a gun problem, it has a nut problem.

Throughout the nation, there have been significant cuts in mental illness services by state and local authorities.  Police forces are having a tough time recruiting new officers given the beat down that’s been given by the progressive media. What is a citizen to do if the next-door neighbor is a wild-eyed ninny that is in serious need of now canceled or cut back mental health services? Suppose they have weapons, now what?  What about the career criminal who breaks into your home? Calling the police won’t rid their home of the threat, once inside. Has it ever occurred to our genius politicians that maybe because of situations like that, Americans want to have legally purchased guns to protect their families from criminals and crazed mayhem.

No Gavin, it’s not as simple as passing more laws. Criminals are criminal because they don’t obey laws. So Gavin can pass all the gun control laws he wants, and the felons aren’t going to obey them or give a damn. But the real harm happens to the honest law-abiding gun owners who are expected to surrender their legally purchased guns to appease a Dudley DoRight pol.  They are up the well traveled creek without a paddle.

In the wake of the George Floyd death, a war on the nation’s police forces broke out. Mass resignations and early retirements have devastated major city constabularies. Maintaining order is hanging by a thread in some cities.  Then the war on those who serve and protect accelerated when five black officers beat a black motorist in Memphis, Tennessee so badly that he died. Is it no wonder that gun sales are at increased levels? These bad apples give the vast majority of remaining good and decent officers a bad name. A conundrum that no one wants.

Because of the demonization of the nation’s police forces by the progressive leftists, folks are afraid that in the event some criminal lays waste to their person, there will be no quick response to a 911 call. As such, Americans are arming themselves in record numbers. Unfortunately there is no national standard or free training for firearm instruction and safety, except what the NRA (National Rifle Association) offers free to members. Restoration of trust and respect for those who are sworn to protect and serve will make a huge difference in the nation’s psyche. That will occur when criminals are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, “no bail” policies are eliminated and the progressive district attorneys who coddle criminals are thrown out of office, i.e. George Gascon in Los Angeles and Alvin Bragg in New York City are prime examples.

The Second Amendment will stand the test.  The real question, will the sawdering of Gavin Newsom’s views on gun control ever end in the progressive media?

The emphasis should be on increased mental illness services and criminal control, not gun control.
