The Guardians
The Wokeristas have now had their way with the Major League Baseball. The Cleveland Indians baseball team will now be known as the Cleveland Guardians beginning in 2022. Despite a significant absence of outrage from the native American community, the owners of the team decided that after well over 100 years, a new unoffending team name was needed.
Sadly, the history of how the team became known as the “Indians” has been lost in the rush to right a perceived insult to Native Americans. The team was called the “Cleveland Spiders” when it signed Louis Sockalexis, a member of the Penobscot tribe. He was such a remarkably skilled player that he became the star of the Spiders. The local baseball scribes soon nicknamed the team, the “Indians”. The nickname stuck as the team went changed to the “Naps” from the Spiders. Finally in the 1920s, the “Indians” became the team’s name.
The sensitivity of the woke crowd to all traditions of the American story is a sight to behold. The “offended by everything” crybaby crowd goes after anyone who questions their motives or logic and soon find themselves under a vicious assault, either verbal or physical, in too many cases. When does common sense and logic get equal time? Not anytime soon as long as the media remains in the firm grip of the progressive enablers of this nonsense.
All this politically correct baloney is further acerbated when the POTUS doesn’t speak up to defend some of the basic traditions of the country. His garbled syntax is blamed on a childhood stuttering problem and not his obvious cognitive decline. Joe’s inability to speak up and his intransigence about these radicals, gives credulity to the those who are spinning a new version of national history and tradition every day. It seems that everything is an affront to everybody.
Who are the “Guardians”? For starters, they aren’t a baseball team in Cleveland. They are the smart folks who realize that major damage is being done to the fabric of the nation. Every aspect of society is under fire. They want to preserve the nation’s history, warts and all. No skewing it to fit some Marxist socialist progressive agenda. A refusal to teach victimhood as found in the foundation of CRT (critical race theory). Those who would endorse individual achievement based on hard work. They have the vision to take advantage of educational opportunities without regard to labels or ethnicity. These are the Guardians.
Anyone with perspicacity recognizes that it is not a good time in America. Joe Biden does not seem to be in charge, making off prompter strange remarks. The pandemic continues to cause misery, the country is severely divided politically, and the mainstream media is more morally bankrupt and in the tank for the progressive left than ever. Meanwhile the rest of the world looks at what’s happening in the US with glee or astonishment.
So, let’s change the name of the Los Angeles Angels so we won’t offend those who don’t believe in angels. While we’re at it, better change the name of the Atlanta Braves…for the obvious reasons.
There are far greater problems facing this nation and the names of teams should be the least of them.
