Thanksgiving

The cancel culture that has run rampant this election year has now focused on a campaign to diminish the importance of a traditional American holiday. It began, when for the first time ever, no major network would broadcast “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”. Not appropriate according to the network bosses.  Since when? Finally, PBS relented and televised it.

Anyone who’s ever watched the half hour animated take on Thanksgiving, played out by Charles Schultz’s beloved characters, can’t find anything controversial, unless they’re a wacked out, wanna be, politically correct loons. Tragically there are some and they live among us. Ignore them.

Government leaders across the Nation are also doing there darndest to remake this year’s holiday by issuing pronouncements that run the gamut from stupid to outright crazy. They are all convinced that their collective genius outweighs the commonsense found in 90+% of the citizens. They seem to think they will protect us from the pandemic by remaking how the Thanksgiving Holiday should be celebrated. Here’s a few:

Governor Kate Brown of Oregon has encouraged citizens to call the police if they see neighbors with more that 6 people attending a celebratory feast.  She likened it to calling the cops if someone is having a noisy party.  Kate is in the running as the one of the most absurd, crackpot elected officials in the country.  How’s that downtown Portland looking Kate?

Not to be out done, the equally looney Governor Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania, banned alcohol sales in bars and restaurants starting at 5:00 PM Wednesday until 8:00 AM Thursday. He added Thanksgiving is “the biggest day for drinking,” and hopes his mandate could help slow the spread of the virus. So, it’s ok to drink on Thanksgiving but not the night before? You can’t make this nonsense up.

In New Mexico, the Governor said that beginning on Monday, residents will be instructed to “stay home except for only the most essential trips” and urged not to congregate in groups. Essential businesses, such as grocery stores and pharmacies, will be forced to “minimize operations and in-person staffing to the greatest extent possible,” although they may remain open. I’m sure the citizens of New Mexico are relieved that the grocery stores are open so they can continue to eat.

California, the state that leads the Nation in craziness has a 10:00 PM to 5:00AM curfew in effect until December 21st. Woe be to those who are out during the curfew. Apparently, Governor Nuisance (Newsom) is convinced that those are the primary danger hours for contracting of the China Flu. Does anyone on the planet believe that this will prevent the pandemic spreading?

Then there’s the Los Angeles County Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer (not a medical doctor) who often appears on TV with a funeral parlor pallor, announced that all outdoor restaurant dining should be discontinued in the county and further recommended that you only celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with people from your household. No guests from outside your household should attend, even if you're dining outdoors.

Across the America, state and local officials are making some ridiculous rules and guidelines that will no more stop the flu than one man shoveling sand will stop the tide. Now we have 4 vaccines on the horizon that will in all likelihood stop this virus in its tracks. When will these folks wise up?

In the meantime, while celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday as free Americans, not relying on the dictates of power crazed, overzealous government officials, remember the what Linus van Pelt said at the table in “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”.

"In the year 1621, the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast. They invited the great Indian chief Massasoit, who brought 90 of his brave Indians and a great abundance of food. Governor William Bradford and Captain Miles Standish were honored guests. Elder William Brewster, who was a minister, said a prayer that went something like this: 'We thank God for our homes and our food and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice."

Enough said. Happy Thanksgiving.
