One of the favorite woke words used by the progressive liberal leftists, embraced and coddled by the media, is “equity”. Their phony noble use of this word is frighteningly ignorant as the true definition of the word is “fair and impartial”. When used by these zealots to define equity, “fair and impartial” would be a massive stretch. Seems that at every turn the country is subject to some sort of “equity”. In no particular order, here’s some for consideration.
Beginning with “Road Equity” as advocated by that noted expert on bridges and highway construction, Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg. The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana and Presidential candidate cut his teeth on the matter while making the roads of South Bend the envy of the Nation. Not. This week, he said that a lot of roads were racists when built, that many were built to divide white and black areas. Going forward, the recently passed Infrastructure Bill will ensure that this will never happen again. It will “deconstruct the racism that was built into the roadways”. Does anyone recall Martin Luther King Jr. leading protests over road construction?
Not to be out done by Pete, Vice President Kamala Harris asked NASA if satellites could be used to track trees “by race” in various neighborhoods as part of “environmental justice” during a recent display on climate change, “Tree Equity” if you will. This question is stunningly stupid, and her supporters wonder why her approval rating is 28% in the latest USA Today poll. She’s making a strong argument for never using the 25th Amendment to replace Joe.
Lately the Glasgow climate summit sideshow has seized the attention of the progressive media, print and broadcast. The Nation has been treated to an endless parade of global warning activists and politicians whose scientific ignorance knows no bounds. The term “Climate Equity” has become prominent. When researched, one meaning found is, “acknowledging disproportionate impacts from climate change and how those are rooted in the historic and systemic oppression of Black, Indigenous and Poor communities.” Huh? So, when the earth warmed some 30,000 years ago, ending the ice age there was a disproportionate impact and suppression of Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon humans? Must have been the emissions from all those cars and coal fired power plants they built. That’s why John Kerry said in a Glasgow press conference, there would be no coal fired electrical plants by 2030 in the United States. What a visionary.
Cross the border illegally and uninvited in 2018 and the ACLU will ensure that you get “Migrant Equity” if you were separated from your children…if it can be proved that they were your children. Essentially, given the utter disregard for existing immigration law practiced by the Biden Administration, no one should be surprised at the madness of awarding large cash settlements to law breakers. One problem though, the law states that children could only be held for a specific amount of time in detention while there was no limit on the “parents”. Thus, some kids were temporarily separated.
“Education Equity” is a concept that all can agree on, but it has two components, equality and equity. Equality mandates that every student should have the same access to a high-quality education. Equity on the other hand means that diverse students may need special resources to achieve their potential. The problem is that these noble principles aren’t being practiced by the advocates of Critical Race Theory which at its core teaches that whites are evil oppressors and children of color are victims. A simple summation that has outraged parents nationwide as it is based on Marxists view that the world is divided into the oppressed and the oppressor. A perversion of the constitutional foundation that makes the American dream possible.
If you listen to a progressive socialist like Senator Bernie Sanders, you’ll hear the term “Income Equity”. Bernie who owns three homes, one of which is a lakeside villa in Vermont, has been voracious as an advocate that the wealth of the Nation must be shared equally. At no time does this lifelong government trough feeder recognize that acquired wealth and income is the result of hard work and dedication. Bernie’s acolyte, Sandy Cortez, the former bartender from the Bronx now serving in the House of Representatives as the leader of the “Squad”, is truly an inspiration to socialists everywhere. While toddling around DC in her Tesla, she’s rarely out of earshot from a camera where she can share her understanding of how capitalism has an evil impact on ordinary folks. Spare us Sandy.
Equity is a simple word. It should not be the sole province of the wokeristas, used to guilt up those who don’t subscribe to their views as not “fair and impartial”. Any civil society needs equity with respect to the treatment of its members. For this not to be practiced across the board is foolish. But it should not be used to distort equality required by all in society.
