High Crimes
The Thursday before the 4th of July holiday, the national news media treated its viewers and readers to a spectacle that didn’t deserve widespread attention. The Biden syncopates of the mainstream press acted like a hungry dog seizing a bone.
The Trump Organization CFO, Allen Weisselberg, got perp walked into a Manhattan courtroom to face charges that resulted from a year’s long investigation into the business practices of the former President’s company. Upon learning of the charges Weisselberg had turned himself in, voluntarily. Nevertheless, the prosecutors made a show of handcuffing him and walking him down a hall to a courtroom crowded with reporters. He was accompanied by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and New York Attorney General Letitia James, two notorious and well documented sufferers of “Trump Derangement Syndrome”. A staged event to be sure.
Both these New York office holders based their campaigns on their desire to “get Trump”, their political motives are obvious. Vance has pursued President Trump and his business records for years with a missionary zeal. James campaigned to be the state Attorney General with a promise, as she stated, to shine “a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn.”
Vance and James produced a 15-count indictment for minor offenses that almost never bring criminal charges. Vance acquired Trump Organization tax records, and all he came up with was an alleged failure to pay proper taxes on corporate perks like company cars, grandchildren’s private school tuition and subsidized apartment rentals by the CFO. Camouflaging compensation as expenses is not unusual in corporate America. If this were any other company, this low-level beef would generate a civil suit, an audit, a demand for payment of unreported tax revenue and perhaps a substantial fine. It is rarely the basis for a criminal indictment.
They hope that by throwing the book at Weisselberg, he will turn state’s evidence against the former President. Legal experts were astounded by this charade. Neither the former President nor his children who run the business, were charged in the indictments.
Meanwhile violent street crime is epidemic in New York City with shootings in Times Square and subway stabbings. Governor Andrew Cuomo is skating on charges that he’s a serial groper and misled the state regarding nursing home deaths due to the pandemic. The priorities of DA Vance and AG James are woefully out of step with day-to-day criminal realities.
So, while the media does the happy dance over 73-year-old Allen Weisselberg legal woes, the blackout in the media on stories involving Hunter Biden’s influence peddling during his father’s tenure as Vice President continues, as more and more revelations leak from his notorious laptop. The hard drive copies are known to be held by the FBI, the New York Post and perhaps others.
Emails and text messages indicate that Hunter flew on Air Force II with his father to Mexico in February 2016 to finalize a deal with billionaire Carlos Slim in Mexico City. Joe Biden has repeatedly denied that he had any knowledge of Hunter’s shady business dealings. Reporters are apparently convinced that while winging their way to Mexico, father and son engaged in a spirited game of pinochle. No need to discuss any business strategies to feather the Biden nest. However, pictures have surfaced in the foreign press and a few domestic outlets of Joe hanging with Slim and Hunter during the time these deals were being consummated. Anybody wonder what Hunter’s tax returns look like?
The mainstream media, which systematically harassed the Trump children about their business dealings and investigated every aspect of their lifestyles, have shown little interest in Biden’s grifter son. Even after reports surfaced last month that Hunter may have paid prostitutes with Joe’s money while on a 2018 bender in West Hollywood, there was no coverage in any major media. Can you imagine what the coverage would have been if the roguish behavior was by a son with the last name of Trump?
Two different news stories that in the past, may have received completely different treatment. Unfortunately, in these times, the Nation has media propaganda machines alleging that they are free and honest purveyors of the truth. Nothing could be further from it. Obfuscating, blacking out, ignoring or recrafting news is criminal in and of itself.
The media is quite content to report on Joe Biden’s ice cream choices, as it did this past weekend, and ignore the fact that he had to get out his “briefing cards” to answer a question about Russia while getting a double scoop. There is no way that the nefarious activities of the sacred cow Hunter will ever be brought up to him, or his increasingly obvious mental lapses will be questioned by any of the partisan protective reporters who trail him everywhere…except perhaps by a Fox News guy.
That lack of curiosity by the national press is a high crime.
