Lipstick on a Pig
Biden’s State of the Union Address was a hopeless attempt to put “Lipstick on a Pig”. This well-known phrase is used when someone tries to disguise something in the hope to obfuscate its fundamental failings. Joe should have known that his speech was a futile effort to deceive the Nation as to its real state.
It’s abundantly clear that none of his staff or handlers clued him in to the latest Gallup Poll regarding his governance. That poll, just out this week, addressed the state of the nation by asking three critical questions. The breakdown of over 1000 respondents was as follows: Democrats 29%, Republicans 26%, and Independents 42%.
The first question: In general, are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time? Satisfied, 21%. Dissatisfied, 78%. No opinion, 1%.
The second question: How would you rate economic conditions in the country today? 21% excellent or good. 79% fair or poor.
The third question: Do you think economic conditions in the country are getting better or worse? Getting better, 26%. Getting worse, 70%.
These results are a shocking testimony to what Americans think the real state of the Nation is.
Armed with that information, Joe’s speechwriters and staff should have crafted a better message to the country than what he read in the House chamber last night. Unfortunately, that was not the case. He opened with foreign policy and shouted about Putin and the Ukrainian invasion like a man telling trespassers to get off his front lawn. He announced that no Russian airline planes could fly to the United States - as if there’s a big rush to travel to Russia. He said that the Russian oligarch’s ill-gotten gains were being targeted and that with our NATO partners, weapons to resist the aggression would be forthcoming. Should have done that months ago. Joe praised the courage of the Ukrainians but managed to mangle what was on the prompter, referring to them as “Iranians’. His exact statement was "Putin may circle Kyiv with tanks, but he'll never gain the hearts and souls of the 'Iranian' people". That was only one of the malaprops sprinkled throughout his remarks.
When he addressed the domestic woes of the Nation, there were no reality-based solutions offered. To solve soaring inflation, Joe wants businesses to lower costs, not wages. Once again, he demonstrated that he is clueless about basic economics or how businesses operate. Hard costs of raw materials can’t be controlled by a manufacturer. Buy American was his mantra - but never did he say that we should buy American oil. Not a word about shutting off imported Russian oil, 650,000 barrels a day, currently around 7-8% of daily consumption in the United States.
His radical decision to voluntarily cancel new pipelines, federal leases, fracking, and Alaskan oil expansion last year cost America 2 million barrels of daily production and started the inflation ball rolling. Increased fuel costs as any economist knows increased the cost of all goods. Even the 17 Nobel Laureates he constantly refers to ad nauseam, know that. It was a huge strategic calamity to cave into the tree hugging, bugs and bunny, climate change loons and hobble the American fossil fuel industry. So, Biden proposed 500,000 charging stations instead of increasing domestic oil production. To reduce the cost of gasoline, he will release 60 billion barrels of oil from the national strategic reserve, a figurative drop in the consumption bucket. Delusional at best and that will not lower food costs.
As the speech droned on, there were no solutions offered regarding the southern border, getting illegal immigration, and smuggling under control. To his credit Joe did say that we need to fund the police and make our cities safe. He touted once again record job creation, but he continued to use the phony baseline employment data of April 2020, when everything in America shut down. There was the usual pandering to the LGBTQ and the abortion supporters but nothing about the rights of women who don’t want to face unfair competition in their sports because of trans gender men overrule their rights. Finally, there was the usual disgraceful linkage of his son Beau’s death to actual combat deaths. His death was not combat related, he died of brain cancer.
We the people were fed a speech which could best be described as a banquet of baloney when he should have to spoke about the actual state of the Nation. A word salad that could make Vice President Kamal Harris proud. He brought up the trials of his youth. Nobody cares Joe. The folks care about their current dismal financial situation which can be accredited to his regime’s 14 months of muddled management.
Joe didn’t have enough lipstick to beautify the pig that is his stewardship of the United States.
