The Beat Goes On

“The beat goes on; the beat goes on. Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain.”

The opening lyrics to a song that propelled Sonny and Cher to musical stardom. Sonny has left the building and Cher is thinking about making her 43rd Farewell tour.  The lines speak to the non-stop blather we citizens are getting daily from media and elected leaders.

First, we shut down the country to prevent the Wuhan Flu from infecting the country, putting millions out of work and then, just when things begin to restart, we allow a bunch of anarchists to highjack a legitimate protest, burning, looting and destroying businesses. This added to the continued misery of the unemployed workers as their jobs in these impacted businesses vanished   Does this make any sense.?  And the beat goes on.

Folks are still under semi-house arrest, now with curfews in some areas as the result of the mayhem. Stuck, trying to get some clear idea of when this chaos generated by the Anarchists will end. These are hoodlums disguised as justice seekers for George Floyd, murdered by a Minneapolis cop. And the beat goes on.

The stories reported are night and day, peaceful one minute and violent the next. It’s a parallel universe that continues to amaze. The leaders of major cities seemed paralyzed.  They don’t know whether to fish or cut bait.  Their impotence is amazing when it comes to restoring civil order. And the beat goes on.

Peaceful protestors peacefully looted Macy’s in New York while maintaining social distancing and wearing their masks. Meanwhile the nincompoop mayor of New York, Bill DeBlasio praised his own daughter for getting arrested for rioting. And the beat goes on.

Continuing in the parallel universe, reports from the liberal mainstream media allege that the rioters are “far-right white supremacists”. Then why are liberal Hollywood elites raising bail money?  If they were "peaceful", they would not need bail. And the beat goes on.

On social media the posts and comments that refer to the protesters as peaceful continue to amaze.  What demonstrations have they been watching for the last several days? The cries that we need to end “systemic racism” echo day after day from outraged protestors as they burn and loot. And the beat goes on.

“People of color want law and order.”  Leo Terrell noted liberal black civil rights attorneys in a broadcast interview.  He further opined that the mayors of Los Angeles and New York will not fully utilize the National Guard because they’re don’t want to admit that President Trump is right about using those forces to restore order. That hardline perspective is quite surprising coming from one of the most vociferous civil rights advocates in the nation. And the beat goes on.

Chanting “No justice, No peace” and “I can’t breathe” while looting is not the best possible message for the Black Lives Matter folks to put out. When you have anarchy, no lives matter. And the beat goes on.

This past weekend, 80 Chicagoans were shot in drive-by shootings, 21 fatally, the victims overwhelmingly black. These killings were not related to the “protests”. Police shootings are not the reason that blacks die of homicide at eight times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined… criminal violence is. And the beat goes on.

Criticizing the President’s walk to a damaged church, Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer along with the usual print and media outlets, stated that the United States Park Police used tear gas on the demonstrators in Lafayette Park Monday. This is a blatant lie and yet the media continues to report it as a fact. After clearing them out, weapons were found conveniently stashed around the park, baseball bats, tire irons and containers of caustic liquids.  Would the outrage with the President’s walk have been the same if it had been the Black AME church that burned rather the historic St John’s Episcopal church, opened in 1816?

Nothing like fair and accurate coverage. Their lack of curiosity, blatant partisanship and utter stupidity continues to be astonishing.

And the beat goes on…drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain.
