The California Count
At this point, it appears California still struggles to count votes efficiently. Florida, with a population of 24 million and two time zones, can report its results within hours of the polls closing. California, by contrast, has lagged for years. In 2024, it took a week to count 76% of the vote. In 2018, the winner of the 21st Congressional District was not known for more than a month. It would be difficult to find a state or country that takes longer to tally votes than California. That is a disgrace and a disservice to the state’s residents. As a result, suspicions about irregularities in the counting process have become widespread.
Presently, we don't have but we should have definitive results in the Los Angeles Mayor and the California gubernatorial race. For now, it looks like in LA, which is just about to sink into a deep abyss, that Karen Bass the current mayor is going to be running against Spencer Pratt. That could change dramatically as the sloth-like “count” continues. In the race for the Governor's office it’s Steve Hilton, a conservative Republican who used to work on Fox News, against Xavier Becerra, Joe Biden’s Health and Human Services Secretary. Another cliffhanger subject the “count”. Becerra was in charge of solving homelessness. How did that work out?
Karen Bass has made Los Angeles a disaster with runaway crime, a shorthanded police department that cannot answer calls. The city borders on anarchy. Karen Bass should be doing something else instead of running the Nation's second-largest city. Gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra only surged because disgraced Rep. Eric Swalwell’s campaign collapsed in California. Xavier was not the Democrat’s first dance card choice by any stretch.
As a result of the failure of progressive Democrat leadership, almost four million people have moved out of California between the years 2020 and 2024, according to census data. California's a nice place to live if you like the weather and once there used to be a lot of opportunity. But now lot of people can't cut it because the government is too onerous. It's all about taxation, business regulation, over reaching control. Don’ t be surprised if the exodus continues.
Sadly, if you coalesce the Democratic votes in the primary, Pratt gets slaughtered and Hilton gets thumped. There’s a strong chance that might happen as there is a lopsided registration gap that favors the Dems. The California Democratic machine, probably the most powerful political operation outside of Chicago, will not stop at anything to put Democrats in office, one way or another. Republicans, including Trump, are speculating that the fix is in. In 2022 LA Mayoral election, Rick Caruso led Karen Bass on election night, only for the ballots to keep coming in until Bass won by 7 points. A 12-point swing. This exact same thing happened to favor Adam Schiff in his run for Senate against Steve Garvey.
The people of California think they have a choice, but they really don’t, thanks to the “machine” and the state’s crazy mail-in ballot election policy. California elections are the most corrupt in the Nation. The West Coast Democrats make their Chicago cousins look like amateurs. One of the biggest problems is voter apathy. A lot of folks just don't know what's going on, and if they do, the media reports that everything is Trump’s fault. They have let the progressive movement run the state now for 25 years and it's a catastrophe. If Hilton and Pratt get an honest shot, make a lot of noise about what’s been happening, maybe they will be able to wake up the citizens to the reality of progressive governance.
If you continue to vote for failure, you get more failure. Under the guarantee clause of the United States Constitution, it states that the United States shall guarantee that each state has a republican form of government. The clause gives Congress and the federal government a duty to intervene if a state abandons its republican structure. When these votes won’t be certified until after July 4th, how exactly is this a small “R”, republican form of government? It’s banana republic form of government.
The longer this count goes on, the worse Republicans usually do in the final vote.
Fair-minded Californians should gird their loins.
