The Double Standard

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said the following when she spoke to CBS News Radio about her objections to Republican’s police reform bill: “…but so far they are trying to get away with murder, actually. The murder of George Floyd”.  Pelosi is the perfect practitioner of polarization. Might be the undisputed champion.

These remarks, directed at the bill championed by Senator Tim Scott, were decidedly underreported. When a liberal makes remark that borders on lunacy, the liberal media is not going to report and expose the perpetrator. This absence of non-reportage is just a small slice of how the news is fed to the American public by disingenuous print and broadcast outlets. This, the double standard, is readily apparent in today’s mainstream media.

When an MSNBC reporter asked a Trump supporter at the Tulsa rally Saturday night why she wasn’t wearing a mask, he got the following reply: “Why don’t you ask the protesters and rioters why they weren’t wearing masks?” The reporter was so flummoxed that he could only sputtered an incoherent response to the program host about his encounter. The quick-witted woman’s answer blew up their narrative.

The double standard is glaringly evident when it comes to the Biden Presidential Campaign. While protesters marched, rioted all over the country, there was not a rush to the Biden’s Delaware basement for a statement condemning the violence.  Nor has there been a statement from one prominent liberal who has condemned tearing down historical statues and defacing memorials. The media is not chasing that story either, to state the obvious.

They won’t report that you can’t rip down statues or deface memorials that you don’t like or agree with. Being a minority doesn’t give you the right to destroy anything because you are aggrieved. Defacing public property is against the law and just because some are offended doesn’t make it right. Everything offends everybody at some point in time. Fact.

The media sticks to the storyline that the current civil unrest is all about Black Lives Matter (BLM) and the death of two black men. That train left the station a couple of weeks ago. This is a Marxist fueled civil uprising, that’s been readily admitted as such, by the leaders of the BLM. The two deceased black men, Floyd and Brooks, are hardly mentioned as they rail against the country that allows them to practice civil disobedience and incite violence.

Hawk Newsome, the chairman of the BLM in New York stated that they would burn the system down if they didn’t have their demands met. Wonder how Hawk would do if he were expressing this kind of violent action in Hong Kong or Beijing? BLM activist Shaun King, formerly with Bernie Sanders campaign, opined that statues of Jesus Christ should be torn down — but just the white ones. Couldn’t find these comments by either one widely documented in the media.  The double standard at work…again.

A classic example of this practice, was the tragic death of 3-year-old Mekay James, killed by gunfire in Chicago last Father’s Day weekend. Not nationally reported, this was a young black life that mattered…and there was no news of Rev. Al Sharpton rushing to speak at his funeral. Perhaps he should change his last name to Rev Al Charlatan. When black NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace and his pit crew were told that the noose, they found in their garage was really a garage door pull rope and a not a noose, the follow-up coverage necessitated a magnifying glass to find. Another story that didn’t fit aggrieved storyline.

America is faced with a Manichaean choice. The citizens must decide about the future of our country. It has nothing to do with the lockdown, the virus, the economy, foreign policy or racism. It’s an affirming question, do you want a civilization, based on the rule of law and rational racial equality? Or do you want to tear down statues and destroy monuments, blow up Mount Rushmore, and forget how we got to be the freest country on the planet? The citizens of this nation have the right to know the truth, the history of the United States, good and bad. Our national story should not be clouded, hidden, removed, burned, or destroyed like Joseph Goebbels did in Nazi Germany, by an agenda driven few.

America doesn’t have to be perfect to be great.
