The Great Divider

With the Labor Day holiday and summer in the rear-view mirror, the fall political season is in full bloom.  Labor Day brings all the office seekers injecting themselves into parades, BBQs, and end of summer gatherings.  Regardless of party affiliation, they chase voters down with the gusto of a door-to-door sales professional.

Leading the charge to November 8th is Joe Biden.  Since he doesn’t have anything positive to say about his governance or the country, he kicked off the season last Thursday before Labor Day with a vitriolic sermon about the poisonous effects MAGA Republicans were having on Americans. It was 24 minutes of political carpet bombing directed at Trump voters.  Never in the history of the United States has a sitting President made such a vicious attack on a former President and his supporters. The Great Unifier solidified his position as The Great Divider.

His speech was set at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the American Republic. The building was bathed in red lighting, the entrance flanked by two Marines in dress uniforms looking like praetorian guards. The podium was under a white spotlight, that Biden walked to. The scene was Orwellian. Never in the history of the Nation has the optics of a Presidential address been this disturbing. Independence Hall looked like the Reichstag or worse.

Not since Senator Joe McCarthy vilified innocents in the 1950’s has a politician launched a frontal attack on his opponents using reckless and unsubstantiated accusations, as well as questioning their character and patriotism. Even his pals in the progressive corporate media questioned his strategy.  Shouting like an angry old man at kids on his front lawn, Joe was relentless as he painted the 74 million Trump voters as threats to democracy. Then on Friday, off teleprompter he walked that idea back, after signing yet another executive order.  Who is running the country, Joe or the teleprompter?

In a series of subsequent speeches over the holiday weekend, the assault continued. Never a word about what problems Americans are really facing thanks to his regime.  No solutions to high gas prices or groceries. Not one remark about the out-of-control border or high crime in major metropolitan cities. Didn’t bother to address the Fentanyl smuggling that is killing young Americans in record numbers. Joe continued to lash out at “MAGA Republicans” and “Trumpies” as threats to democracy.  A heckler at Biden’s appearance in Wisconsin was singled out as a “threat to democracy”. Heckling is free speech, and all politicians know that opposition is fundamental to a free society. Someone tell Joe.

Since when did the concept of “Making American Great Again” become a buzzword for extremism and unpatriotic behavior? According to Joe, MAGA Republicans want to take away social security and voting rights. That is shameless and delusional coming from a man who claims to be the “The Great Unifier” as he stated in his Inaugural remarks. If anything, those who are MAGA Republicans want back the great economy the country was enjoying before the current crew took office. Remember…low gas prices, energy independence, no runaway inflation, secure borders, and lower crime rates.

All signs point to a fall election season with Joe blasting former President Donald Trump and those who voted for him as responsible for the current economic malaise. Frankly it’s the only play the Democrats can execute leading up to November elections.  Their playbook has nothing else in it unless Joe’s teleprompter conjures up a new positive approach to the Nation’s ills.

The image of a revered site like Independence Hall made to look like an Amsterdam house of ill repute was disheartening.  Based on what’s been heard so far, the promise of a unified country grows more distance as amiable Joe, the blue-collar guy from Scranton shouted in his speech, “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundation of our republic”. This from a man who promised the country that he would give them a peaceful, unified presidency. He has disappeared into a deepening progressive socialist swamp.

Perhaps Biden’s speech would have sounded better in German.
