Made in the USA
Today we celebrate Memorial Day. Once known as Decoration Day, it started in 1868 as a federal holiday to honor and mourn those who have died while in the service of the United States Armed Forces. It is not the day to thank a veteran for his or her service. That’s Veterans Day.
Those patriots, made in the USA, died to ensure that we keep the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. For the last three days, Flags have been flown at half-staff, honoring those who have lost their lives to the Wuhan Flu. (Coved-19 for the politically correct). The President stated that we are at war with an invisible enemy.
Unfortunately, in this latest war, the freedoms fought for have been trampled by some leaders in their ignorant fervor to save us from the pandemic. The reaction to this disease by certain medical geniuses (Dr. Fauci and the CDC) is being debunked daily by increasing number of other equally bright physician/scientists as overkill. This combination of political and medical zealots recommended the national shutdown, which has now cratered the world’s greatest economy.
One of the critical elements in the economic recovery of the United States will be the creation of manufacturing jobs throughout the nation. In case you haven’t noticed, very little of our consumer goods are “Made in the USA”. While no one was paying attention, the core of American industry has been stripped and shipped to China. The bottom line is that not much of what we use, is made here except food and cars. What’s left here are service industry jobs that have been hammered by the Wuhan Flu epidemic.
So recovery is going to be largely dependent on what we can start manufacturing here, in this country, for our citizens and the rest of the world to buy. Let’s begin with pharmaceutical supplies. The Wuhan Flu has exposed a serious supply chain problem in that industry. We don’t make 80% of the medicines we use in the United States. How smart is that? Depending on our “pals” in China doesn’t qualify anyone for a Rhodes Scholarship for clear thinking. Outsourcing the manufacturing of basic medicines is the result of pure corporate greed and globalism. Currently we are hostage to the whims of the Communist Chinese government. Chew on that.
Might be a really good idea to build some iPhones in the USA. Those jobs create taxpayers. Tax incentives given to Apple might make sense. Then again, we can always let the slave laborers, working 6 days a week make our devices rather than spend a few bucks more to see “Made in the USA” instead of “Designed in the USA” on an iPhone.
The United States sends food to China to be processed then it’s sent back for consumer consumption. You can’t make this nonsense up.
The problem is that the minute that the subject is taken up politically, there’s a loud cry of that xenophobia and protectionism is being embraced. How could we do this? Does anyone in their right mind think the Xi Jinping, President of China gives a rat’s patootie about the health and wellbeing of the average American citizen...or the average Chinese citizen for that matter?
We make great patriots in this country. So, as we remember those patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Let’s start by making great products in the homeland as well. Let’s restore the arsenal of democracy and make this country a world leader, manufacturing goods for all the world.
It’s time for an economic renaissance with products labeled “Made in the USA”.
