In this together
Daily, during the current pandemic, we hear this public service announcement over and over, “We’re in this together”.
Baloney.
We’re not all in this together. Just ask the unemployed line cook, out of work because his governor has decided that his life would be in danger cooking sausage, or the specialty shop owner that sells children’s clothing, or the nail shop technician who has been unemployed for 2 months. Meanwhile bureaucrats in the state and federal governments are currently drawing a paycheck. They’re not in the same boat with the line cook or the shopkeeper. Stop the pandering.
Small business owners see the big box stores like Walmart, Target and Costco with full parking lots because they’re “essential” but the store that sells baby clothes is shut down. A self-employed barber, hairdresser can’t work even wearing a mask with sterilized clipping scissors.
These PSA’s sometimes feature Uber wealth Hollywood celebrities telling us to hang in there because “we’re all in this together”. Does anyone in the civilized world really think that some “star”, sitting cuddled up on a designer couch, can relate to the plight of unemployed worker from a “non-essential” business, imploring them to hang in there? This public relations effort borders on being one of the dumbest in American history. This slogan would have been better suited for World War II when the fear was that we’d all be speaking German or Japanese, if we didn’t win the war.
Recent data suggests that the danger zone is the assisted living care facilities. Up to 40% of the reported deaths were residents of these centers. Compounding that are the workers that care for the infirm are subject to a higher infection rate from the Wuhan Flu (not politically correct, NPC). Further, the average age of those affected is over 65. In that age group, underlying health conditions contribute mightily to the death rate. Recently released statistical data backs this trend. This is where the emphasis should be with respect to containing the pandemic.
The healthy 35-year-old America has as much chance of dying from the pandemic as he/she does of winning the Power Ball lottery. This shutdown started out has an effort to “flatten the curve”. Now it’s “we need a vaccine”. Is this really all about a disease? Requiring healthy Americans, who are least likely to acquire the “flu”, into quarantine indefinitely is morally and rationally indefensible.
"We can never achieve herd immunity by keeping the herd quarantined." Dr. Jeffrey Barke, Orange County primary care Physician
The looney Mayor of Los Angeles actually said that even though the beaches are open, you must avoid dry sand, but wet sand is safe. No doubt he got that from the LA County Health Director who is not an MD, but has a doctorate in social services. Ms. Ferrer, in case you missed seeing her, she’s the curly gray-haired lady with the funeral parlor paler who said the County of Los Angeles may have to remain closed until July 4th, science permitting. She is a well known active leftist, who of course, has no agenda. Right. Never mind that Los Angeles County has a great population than NYC and only 10% of the Wuhan Flu (NPC) fatalities.
These politicians are amazing. Anybody notice how the severity of the closures is directly related to the party running the stateroom the municipality? California, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois are already all run by democrats. Same goes for Washington and Oregon. These alleged state leaders are operating like banana republic dictators, who’s nonsensical edicts affect the lives of innocent small business owners. As it has been opined in this blog previously, this is all about cratering the economy, so the President won’t be re-elected. Too many pundits are now concluding this obvious fact.
Woe be to anyone foolish enough to bring up that perhaps the “shutdown” is politically motivated in a YouTube video or venture that theory in the broadcast or print media. And for Pete’s sake don’t offer an opinion on the impact hydroxychloroquine has on the pandemic since it will last only about 10 minutes before the YouTube Gestapo takes it down as harmful to the community (doesn’t fit the narrative)
Those who offer alternative opinions or solutions will be subject to unrelenting scorn, from agenda driven media types, politicians and celebrities because they’ve evidently forgotten that…
“We’re in this together”.
We’re in this together when the country and the economy reopens.
