Braced
While America braced, the sequestered jury decided the fate of Dereck Chauvin, accused of murdering George Floyd during an arrest gone bad. Twelve citizens considered the facts presented during the trial, America’s broadcast media warned the Nation in hushed and breathless tones to “brace” for widespread rioting, violence and looting if the verdict didn’t satisfy the protestors. Chauvin was found guilty on all counts and there were no riots.
That should have please all parties except perhaps the foremost loon and race baiter in Congress, Maxine Waters (D-CA) who declared that first degree murder should have been the charge. She has been aided and abetted by another certified disgrace, Congresswoman Rashida Tliab (D-Mi), who wants to eliminate all police and endorses Ms. Water’s lunacy. The judge in the trial took issue with Maxine’s remarks conceding that they would be the basis for an appeal if the jury was aware of her outburst. Her outrageous remarks Saturday night in Brooklyn Heights, Minnesota to the protesters follows.
“We’re looking for a guilty verdict … for murder. We've got to stay in the street, and we've got to get more active, we've got to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business."
Mad Maxine gets a pass from Speaker Pelosi who remarked that, “Maxine talked about confrontation in the manner of the civil rights movement." She went on to say that Representative Waters doesn’t need to apologize. Martin Luther King never used this kind of inflammatory rhetoric while leading the civil rights movement during the sixties. Look it up Nancy.
Naturally, there are calls for censure and expulsion from Congress because of Waters shameless meddling. No politician has the right to intimidate a jury. She will skate through this latest breach of conduct. Aliens will land on the White House lawn before her peers punish her outrageous behavior.
Even Rep. Sandy (AOC)Cortez (D-NY), weighed in, adding to the stupidity. ‘We must recognize in legislation...that the trampling of racial justice is a cause of climate change.” Who really believes this nonsense?
A tense Nation now knows the judgement of the jury but had to brace for chaos, looting and burning. The utter absurdity that is, what is to be expected, if a verdict doesn’t go the mob’s way, is a result of the never-ending beat down of law enforcement since last summer’s Floyd-inspired riots. Make no mistake, there are rogue police officers but the percentage of them is infinitesimally small. For example, last Tuesday a Maryland State Trooper shot and killed a white 16-year-old who had a toy airsoft gun. There were no protests, riots or looting as a result of his death. Further there was no national media reports. Sadly, his death didn’t fit the narrative of cops killing black men. Then Sunday in Minnesota, a car jacker was shot by a policeman. Activists rushed to the scene but called off the protest because the criminal was white.
Turning the country into a tinderbox repeatedly over race must cease. Civilized societies don’t destroy lives and properties over initial reactions to an unvetted police shooting or because the outcome of a trial doesn’t fit the pre-ordained agenda of professional rabble rousers. There is a reason for law and order. It is for the protection of all citizens. The recourse for an objectionable verdict or police injustice is not to lay waste to the local Target or Walmart. Additionally, vilifying those who provide law and order will result in their continued withdrawal from providing that essential service to the community. Look no further than Portland where the nincompoop mayor and other city officials have rendered the police impotent.
The hypocrisy of ambulance chasing politicians and black leaders flying to the latest racial incident on private jets is unnecessary. What in the world do Maxine Waters or Al Sharpton contribute to racial healing? More often than not, these disingenuous “leaders” only further hasten the anger. They are poor excuses for a soothing salve needed to calm folks down.
Even Joe Biden had to weigh in on the issue before the jury’s decision. "I'm praying the verdict is the right verdict. I think it's overwhelming, in my view. I wouldn't say that unless the jury was sequestered now." What if there’s an appeal? Not appropriate for him to comment. Then he and Vice President Harris spoke to the Nation after the verdict, both beating the drum of ‘systemic racism’. President Biden went even further and praised last summer's 'peaceful' protests. One just can’t make this up, a revisionist view of what were clearly riots. Continued accusations that America is a racist nation solves nothing. Sweeping generalizations accelerates the move to tribalism. Be the Unifier-in-Chief you claim to be or butt out Mr. President. You too, Madam Vice President.
A braced Nation waited for all hell to break loose, and perhaps the jury decision still won’t satisfy those who need an excuse to wreak havoc on their own communities. That behavior is not what this country should be tolerant of, nor should the country be held hostage after every police encounter with any citizen, especially Black Americans. The alleged National leaders aren’t making things better with irresponsible rhetoric.
Let’s stop bracing and remember we are better than this Maxine, Al, and you too Joe and Kamala…despite what you all claim.
