Tyranny of the Minority
Lately a new phrase has entered the national discussion regarding the condition of the world’s leading democracy, the United States. Books have been written about this and now some pundits are bringing it to the forefront for consideration. This is not a new concept by any means as James Madison wrote about it in The Federalist Papers, addressing factions (a small, organized dissenting group within a larger one, especially in politics), he defined it as follows.
“By a faction, I understand a number of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community.”
Then Madison offered a solution.
“There are two methods of curing the mischiefs of faction: the one, by removing its causes; the other, by controlling its effects. There are again two methods of removing the causes of faction: the one, by destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence; the other, by giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests.”
With this in mind, consider the plight of women’s athletics. Currently there is a wave of insanity infesting their games, tyranny of the minority. Women are asked or forced to compete against biological men in any number of sports and share the same locker rooms. This minority of transgender men destroys the equality and purity of female competition. Yet an element of society sees this as perfectly fine when logic dictates that this is indeed insanity way beyond stupidity. It is a biological proven fact that trans men masquerading as women are still men. Period. They do not belong in female sports or their dressing rooms. Madison’s second solution to this faction is not viable in this case.
Then there is the scourge of homelessness, the “unhoused” as the woke media sometimes refers to them. This minority, thanks to progressive democrat mayors, has been allowed to run around America’s greatest cities, drugged up, harassing residents, and using the sidewalks as their personal commode. In this case Madison’s first solution is necessary. This bunch of “unhoused” folks do not have the right to impose a disgusting lifestyle on the vast majority and need to be removed and controlled, humanely. That is the only way the effects of their irresponsibility can be controlled. Imagine what San Francisco would look like without this element.
Of course, everyone should drive an EV according to the climate change global warming loons. Never mind that this minority remains clueless as to the origin of electricity to charge these vehicles. There isn’t enough solar panels or bird and whale killing windmills to supply power for these automobiles. Recent surveys find that a significant majority want to retain their right to buy a fossil fueled car. In our republic the citizens have the right to make free will choices and that includes transportation. EV sales are stalling, but that is under reported.
A minority of young people have discovered the “smash and grab” shopping alternative. They go unpunished because liberal woke district attorneys don’t have the will to prosecute and jail these scofflaws. This failure is because progressive state legislatures have weakened the laws that punish grand theft, reducing that offense from a felony to a misdemeanor. Does anyone believe the majority of Americans want to shop where criminals are allowed to run wild? Again, Madison’s first solution to this faction will work. Remove the cause and control the effect. Reinstate severe penalties for felony theft, then arrest, convict and jail the offenders.
It is completely unnecessary for the Nation’s educators to involve themselves in gender selection. This minority of zealots have no business telling little 7-year Billy that he could be a girl if he wanted to. Yet there is an ongoing war that has broken out between woke school boards and parents. The primary responsibility of the local school district to create a curriculum that teaches children to read, write, compute, and learn about their country’s honest history, warts and all. The schoolhouse is not a vessel for social activism instigated by some far-left advocate of alternative lifestyles. These discussions belong to a parent’s discretion and judgment as to when it is appropriate. A governor was elected in Virginia, fighting this tyranny, and as this interference in parenting continues to be exposed, a lot of politicians will get the boot. Those causing this nonsense will be affected.
The judicial tyranny of the minority is the nonstop prosecution of Donald J. Trump. One has to ask, why are his poll numbers rising after the coordinated carpet-bombing indictments for everything except planning the attack on the World Trade Center? The answer is simple. Americans recognize what is and isn’t fair. A minority of media types and Department of Justice operatives are enabling this tyranny. It is mischief of the faction.
There is no need for a dissenting or hostile minority to force their will on an unwilling majority, not now or ever.
