Saving California
The Nation watches as California burns. Speculation is rampant about how it all started, who’s to blame and why can’t these kind of tragedies be prevented. But there are some undeniable facts that are known.
Bloviating politicians are not the answer to this catastrophe. Endless coverage of these finger pointing fools is off-putting to say the least. Leading the pack is the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom. This 2028 Presidential aspirant couldn’t lead a horse to water…and if he did, the reservoir would be dry. His looney environmental policies that have denied Southern California the abundant water resources from the Northern part of the state are a good example. To save the snail darter, a fish the size of a sardine, water flow has been restricted by his direction.
In 2018, President Trump was in California meeting with then Governor Brown and Governor-elect Newsom at the scene of another fire disaster, the Camp Fire which destroyed 10,000 homes. In a press conference Trump said the state needed to clear the brush from fire zones and practice prudent forest management, citing how Finland deals with their vast forests. Newsom has obviously ignored Trump’s cited examples because the same problems exist. Wind driven or not, there is no excuse for allowing the underbrush to become overgrown near major population centers. Also, these fires are not due to “Climate Change” but outright stupidity.
The California Legislature passed funding for seven water storage facilities ten years ago. Instead, Governors Brown and Newsom listened to the tree-hugging, Bugs and Bunny crowd, preaching their woke, leftist environmental ideology and nothing has been built because they objected. Not politically correct to challenge them. As a result, water is scarce in much of the dry state. News flash progressive loons, you need water to put out fires...lots of it.
Then there’s the former community activist and congresswoman who’s now the Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass. When alerted that there might be a fire crisis due to an extreme Santa Ana wind event, she still went galivanting off to Ghana for their Presidential inauguration. Despite numerous experts warning about an impending disaster, she was AWOL. Then upon her return, a reporter caught her at the airport, peppering her with questions and she remained like a Sphinx for over two minutes waiting to be whisked away by her aides. Subsequent press briefings have revealed her to be a hapless political hack who at one point told the folks to go to the county’s “URL” for the latest evacuation information.
Budgets for fire fighting have been cut by state and local officials. Newsom slashed funding earmarked for fighting wildfires by more than $100 million this fiscal year, a review of the state’s budget found. The fiscal 2025 budget, signed in June, eliminated $101 million from seven “wildfire and forest resilience” programs. The Governor’s office had no comment. Anyone surprised? Mayor Bass cut 18 million from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget and pushed money for the homeless and DEI programs. And these two clowns want to blame everyone and everything for their failure to plan and prepare for events like the Nation is now witnessing.
The Los Angeles wildfire disaster proves why competence, not party, matters in electing leaders. Los Angeles could have elected Rick Caruso, a successful builder and proven manager, but instead chose a progressive leftist whose campaign platform included abortion rights, climate initiatives and protecting the City as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Just what the hell does any of that have to do with the ability to manage the second largest city in the United States? She couldn’t run a donut store let alone a huge city.
As for the California Governor, Gavin is the runaway leader when it comes to finger pointing. He had nothing to do with the empty reservoir that should have been full for the Palisades folks. Wasn’t his fault that it was offline and limited to the water it could get. Somehow, it’s Trump’s fault, Newsom implied when wailing about the scorched landscape of the Malibu foothills. To his credit, his hair wasn’t out of place in the fierce winds, thanks to an ample slathering of gel as he fed the media a load of vintage liberal bull.
The Speaker of the California Assembly couldn’t answer why the legislature was called into a special session by Governor Newsom to “Trump Proof” California and not deal with the fire mess. Of course, well-known Democrat gadfly, Congresswoman Maxine Waters said that we need to tax the top 1% to solve the problem. Thanks, Maxine, for that brilliant assessment.
The expression is that citizens deserve the government they voted for. Well now the Hollywood Swells who lost their homes are up in arms about these incompetent Democrat ninnies who got their unvarnished support. The veil has been lifted and now everyone knows what a gaggle of flim-flam con artists were elected to provide leadership.
Gavin “Nerosom” has been fiddling while California burned.
